Quartz Countertops FAQ
Do quartz countertops stain?
Quartz countertops are highly stain-resistant but not completely stain-proof. The engineered resin binder makes quartz non-porous, so most spills — coffee, wine, juice, oil — can be wiped away without leaving a mark if cleaned promptly. However, prolonged exposure to certain substances can cause discoloration. Avoid leaving turmeric, permanent markers, or strong dyes on quartz surfaces for extended periods. Quartz does not require sealing, unlike natural stone. For daily cleaning, warm water with mild dish soap is sufficient. Avoid abrasive cleaners, bleach, and high-pH products that can dull the surface over time. In South Florida's humid climate, quartz performs exceptionally well because its non-porous surface resists moisture-related staining that can affect natural stone.
Should I choose quartz or granite?
Quartz is lower maintenance, never needs sealing, and offers consistent color and pattern across slabs. Granite is a natural stone with unique veining, better heat resistance, and a one-of-a-kind look that varies slab to slab. In South Florida, quartz is the most popular choice for busy kitchens because of its stain resistance and low upkeep. Granite is preferred for homeowners who want natural stone character and plan to seal annually. Quartz runs $55–$95/sq ft installed; granite runs $45–$85/sq ft. Visit our Pompano Beach showroom to compare both side-by-side.
What is the difference between quartzite and quartz?
Quartzite is a natural stone formed from metamorphosed sandstone—it comes out of the ground with unique veining and variation, and needs sealing like other natural stones. Engineered quartz is a manufactured product made from ground quartz bound with resin—it needs no sealing and offers consistent, predictable patterning. Despite the similar names, they are completely different materials with different care requirements and appearances.
What countertops are in style right now?
In 2026, the most popular countertop trends in South Florida are white and light-veined quartz (Calacatta-look patterns), natural quartzite with dramatic veining, and porcelain slabs for outdoor kitchens. Waterfall edges — where the countertop extends vertically down the sides of an island — remain one of the most requested design features. Full-height backsplashes using the same slab material as the countertop are also trending, creating a seamless look. For color trends, warm whites and warm grays are dominant, moving away from the cool gray tones that dominated previous years. Matte and leathered finishes are gaining ground over high-polish, especially on granite and quartzite. Visit our Pompano Beach showroom to see current inventory and trending designs in person.
