The Challenge
The homeowner wanted the warmth of natural stone without the cool grey tones typical of marble. Taj Mahal quartzite's honey-gold palette was ideal, but the large island required book-matching across 10 linear feet of waterfall panels for visual symmetry.
Our Approach
Consecutive Taj Mahal quartzite slabs were opened like a book and matched along the island's waterfall edges to create a mirrored vein pattern. The 3cm mitered edge gives the island a substantial, monolithic look. The warm gold tones were balanced against white perimeter cabinetry to prevent the kitchen from feeling heavy.
The Result
An island that reads as warm, inviting, and distinctly natural. The book-matched waterfall edges draw the eye from every angle, and the Taj Mahal's forgiving color palette hides daily wear far better than white-base stones.
Project Details
Fabricated by our Boca Marble division for a Boca West Country Club residence. Taj Mahal quartzite is sourced exclusively from Brazil and prized for its warm honey-gold coloring that sets it apart from the cooler whites and greys dominating the natural stone market. This island was book-matched across both waterfall panels, creating a mirrored vein pattern that gives the piece a sense of intentional artistry. The 3cm mitered construction eliminates any visible substrate and gives the island the visual weight of a solid quartzite block. At over 10 feet in length, it serves as both the kitchen's primary work surface and its social anchor.
